The provincial slogan for British Columbia is “super natural,” and golf courses in B.C., even in cities like Vancouver, B.C., and Victoria, B.C. offer plenty of opportunities to view furry or flying critters along the fairway. Here we look at five good BC golf courses where you can enjoy not only the flora, but the fauna as well.

1) EAGLES

Squamish Valley Golf Club, Squamish, B.C.

Eagles soar over many coastal and mountain courses, and the Squamish Valley Golf Club can be a hotbed for these majestic birds. The Squamish Valley Gold Club pays tribute to the winged predators, including an eagle in the club logo. You’re more likely to spot their great white heads in the fall (the course closes in mid-November). 6,467 yards, 71.4 rating, 126 slope.

2) ELK

Sparwood Golf Club, Sparwood, B.C.

If you’ve driven through the Elk Valley, you soon become aware of how the region got its name. The Sparwood Golf Club only has nine holes, but even in the limited time you have to walk the course, you stand a good chance of seeing the big fellows. 3,144 yards, 67.8 rating, 116 slope.

3) DEER

Golden Golf Club, Golden, B.C.

The Golden, B.C. golf area is a treasure trove of wildlife, and chances are you may need to hold up a shot to allow Bambi to cross your fairway. If you don’t believe me, check out the photo gallery at golfgolden.com. 6,825 yards, 72.2 rating, 134 slope.

4) BEARS

Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Resort, Whistler, B.C.

In the summer, it seems Whistler golf courses have almost as many black bears as dogs, and they casually stroll across walkways, cycling paths and, yes, golf courses. The heavily wooded Chateau Whistler course gives Bruno ample cover, but don’t worry: they leave players and golf balls alone. 6,635 yards, 71.5 rating, 145 slope.

5) COYOTES

Musqueam Golf & Learning Center, Vancouver, B.C.

You don’t have to leave the city to see Wile E. Coyote strutting the fairway, and the courses along the Fraser River in Burnaby and Vancouver, B.C., provide sighting opportunities. The par-60 Musqueam, Golf & Learning Center, which borders the river, plays host to the canines as they move across the course. 3,471 yards, 56.6 rating, 82 slope.
